▶ Your Answer :
Certainly, a major purchase plays a significant role in many of the places where people work or play. There are some factors that have a great impact on people when they are making the decision: recommendation from friends, information from magazines, and reviews from online communities. Respective sides may have their own reasons to support their opinions that the impact that it has is the greatest. If I were to choose one, I would say that recommendation from friends has the most significant influence on people when considering a major purchase for the following reasons.
To begin with, modern people do not rely on information from magazines because it is often biased. As modern society is becoming more competitive, today’s advertisers avoid providing information on magazines that deter consumers from buying their products and only focus on exposing the attractive sides of it. This skewed information will prevent people from buying the right products for their needs. People who know this fact do not rely on the advertisements in magazine especially when they decide to make a critical purchase. For example, in the advertisements of Twix chocolate bar on magazines, students share their positive experiences of eating the chocolate bar. They have reported that they stopped dozing off, stayed more alert, and concentrated better on school work. However, in reality, people suffer from health issues that stem from eating the chocolate bars which are loaded with sugar, calories, and fat. Consumers who have noticed the untruthfulness of the advertisement on magazines might obviously not rely on the information when purchasing their products.
In addition, recommendation from friends has the greatest impact on people because they consider their friends recommendation as credible. Having many experiences, one’s friends might have lot of experiences of making purchases and have a bigger view on matters such as which is a better product. Thus, people believe that their friends’ suggestions will reduce the chance of making mistakes. For instance, when I was in high school, I suffered from diabetes. In order to alleviate this health issue, I asked my friend who released over 20 pounds in a short period of time to recommend me equipments needed for health training. My friend suggested me to buy a running machine that is released by Samsung, because it is affordable and its quality is better than products that were produced by other companies. I accepted her recommendation because of her own success story, and it ended up being very helpful. I actually lost 15 pounds in six months without getting diagnosed with serious illnesses.
To sum up, the impact of friends’ advice far outweigh those of all the other options for the reasons I have mentioned above. All in all, the importance of recommendation from friends when considering a major purchase cannot be overestimated in life. |
