Recently, a debate on whether all students
in university should take history courses mandatorily or not has been brought
about. A sizeable percentage of people might think that the history courses are
necessary to all students because it could help in the future in their lives.
However, I am in line with these people who do not agree that university
students do not need to take history courses. Apparently, the reasons are
diversified, and I would like to scrutinize some of its essentialities that are
mentioned here.
To begin with, it is getting hard to hiring
a new job. By and large, since the competition is too high, every student wants
to be hired in a large company or competitive company. Therefore, it is always
lack of time to focus on their major subjectives. In my personal experience, I
had a TOEFL score, high grades, and social activity experiences in university.
However, it was not easy to get a job because of my low level of university.
This is the society where we live in that just one flaw could be the reason that
student cannot be hired. In the contrary, my friend had a great English
speaking skills, high marks on all subjects with high value of university. The
result was that she got a job with one trial.
Second, we could study on our spare time.
Generally speaking, with high development of internet, we could find any
information whatever we need. Moreover, internet material is more interesting
than compulsory courses. Hence, we can take history channel on Youtube with one
mouse click. In addition, since there is no pressure to get a good score or
exams, they are able to enjoy the study better. I have another example to
support my assertion. When I was in high school student, we all had to study
whole subject without options in freshmen. It was all mandatory courses.
However, when we were sophomore, we could choose the subjects. I chose biology,
and I dropped physics. Therefore, I watched a video about physics. It was
well-made video and quite understandable. Also, I still talk about these videos
because I have such a good memory about it, even this hard physics would come
to me easier.
To sum up, students are even lack of time
to take their requisite courses, and they can search on internet about history
subjects in detail. As a regard, I maintain we do not have to take history
courses mandatorily.
