Many people believe that in order for one to succeed, he or she needs to specialize just one skill. However, in my opinion, Learning as many things as possible is necessary for success. This is because we live in a complicated society and you can roll with the punches with lots of skills. To begin with, this society is as complicated as it can be. So complicated that it requires many skills from each person to survive this harsh world. For example, lawyers are very highly educated people but specialized knowledge about law isn't enough for them to practice law. They need to know how to soothe clients, how to be on good terms with prosecutors and judges, and even how to deal with media when defending political moguls or famous entertainers. Without these skills, a lawyer can't make it. On top of that, you can adapt yourself to the moment with lots of skills and knowledge. You don't know what will happen tomorrow. So absorbing assorted skills is imperative to success. For example, I used to work for an IT company. We had an interpreter in our office. One day, when she got off after regular work hours, a foreign customer suddenly came to our office. He kept saying something and no one could understand what he was saying. But luckily one of my colleagues was very good at speaking English so we could deal with the problem. The boss praised her and her English skill certainly helped to solve the problem. To sum up, we live in a very complicated society which need everyone to be adept in many things and when we have many skills, we can deal with challenging moments. In this regard, I firmly believe that it is a reasonable decision to learn as many skills as possible. |
