Some people argue that communication skill is not important in becoming a leader or a politician. However, I disagree with this idea for two reasons. First, leaders should be able to persuade and compel people easily. Second, it is a crucial part for leaders and politicians to communicate well with members from different groups. First of all, leaders should be competent in convincing people. In other words, they ought to build the ability to make more advocates who believe them. This is because the more people who uphold them, the more power they can obtain. They cannot be a powerful leader if they don’t get to gather bountiful supporters. For example, when I was in high school, there were two friends who were preparing to run for the student president election. One of them were adept to talking and discussing with other friends, while the other wasn't very sociable. During the election period, the former one went here and there convincing students to vote for him, while the other one solely prepared his commitments, not interacting with others a lot. Consequently, the one who won the election was the former one. This shows that you need to be very interactive and well-communicating to become a leader. Second, leaders should be a fluent speaker, since they have to meet a lot of people from other groups and make conferences. When you’re a leader of a group, you have to represent your group’s opinion. In order to handle the momentous task readily, you need to be a skillful spokesperson. If you cannot carry out the conversation well, it would be difficult to bring advantages for your group. For example, according to a survey which was conducted by the government of Japan, a majority of people responded that the most fundamental ability for a politician is the communication skill. An overwhelming 80% of the people mentioned that they cannot rely on a leader if he or she doesn’t hold profound communicative skills. In this regard, it is required to obtain outstanding conversation abilities to become a leader. To sum up, leaders should be proficient in inducing people to making them their supporters. Also, they have to be profound in communicating with people from other groups. Therefore, I disagree to the statement that communication skill is not important in becoming a leader or a politician. 391 words |
