▶ Your Answer : The concept of teamwork and individualism is on a controversy these days. There are many activities that highlight the teamwork, such as soccer. On the other hand, there are other activities that are preformed well in personal, such as reading a book. Some people think that it is comfortable to be an individual, and they can achieve success without others. However, in my opinion, you should rather work as a team than as an individual in order to succeed. There are two reasons for this. First, a human relationship is of extreme importance in current society. Second, you can be easily biased if you work alone.
To begin with, human relationships are becoming more and more significant in this complex world. Like there is a saying "It is who you know, rather than what you do, that makes you succeed", the concept of success has changed. In this modern society, you cannot do everything as an individual. Instead, you have to focus on the little part of the work in which you are talented, and receive help from other people who are experts in other field. In this regard, it is pivotal to have coworkers who eagerly help you in your work. For example, I once worked on my small research when I was in high school. The subject was "the cycloid of ellipse", and it was so hard that I was not eligible to develop it to an adequate point. In fact, I was only good at algebras. However, my teacher introduced other students who are good at geometry and I worked with them as a team. As a result, I could focus merely on algebras, because other students gave me the results I needed, attacking the problem I cannot solve.
On top of that, you have the possibility of deviation if you work in your own. Human's reasoning is an arduous procedure. You cannot precisely point out the thought which is in your brain. Therefore, it is easily biased if you do not communicate with other people. In this regard, in order to make yourself succeed, it is important to continuously make your thoughts clear by listening to others' comments and criticism. However, working alone makes it impossible to do so. For example, my sister once taught mathematics to a high school student. She did her best to make the student fully understand the intuition of the subject. However, she was surprised when the student ended up getting misunderstandings on his own. To solve this, my sister then gave lessons to two students together, and made them to talk each other about the concept after the class. The result was astonishing. They perfectly understood about the material they were taught.
To sum up, due to the significance of relationships and possibility of bias, I firmly hold that it is better to work as a team, rather than as an individual. |
