In the reading, the writer insists that
Repenomamus robustus was not a hunter but a scavenger. In the listening, the
speaker counters the ideas in reading one-by-one by providing several
evidences.
First of all, the lecturer argues that the
mammal could hunt baby dinosaurs because the size of the hunter is bigger than
them. To be a hunter, the size is needed to be 2 times bigger than the game. (Why was the game mentioned here?) However, the baby dinosaurs were small enough to be hunted by the mammal. This
contradicts the first argument in the writing that the size of the mammal was
too small to hunt dinosaurs. (Clarify the whole sentences)
Second, the speaker claims that the modern
mammal, Tasmanian devil, which is known as a hunter also has short and side-by-side
leg configuration. The speed of the creature is about 50 km per hour (Do you mean 'running?') which is
fast enough to hunt. Thus, the ancient mammal could also achieve such speed to
hunt. (Sounds bit awkward) This disputes the second idea in the paragraph that the leg is not suitable for hunt because of its side and position.
Finally, the listening illustrates that the
jaw was not used to chew the game even it has a strong jaw. Instead, the mammal could
swallow the whole meat at once. Thus, we cannot evidently expect that there are
no teeth marks on the bones. This is against disagrees with the final contention in the
writing that no teeth marks on the bones inside of the stomach of the mammal
show that it was a scavenger.
