There is a controversial issue regarding whether it is beneficial for people to know how to read and write or not. Two different opinions exist in regard to this issue, but after taking into consideration of the idea from several perspectives, I side with the idea that knowing how to read and write is better for two reasons.
To begin with, in order to build a strong foundation to the perspective that knowing how to read and write enables people to provide job opportunities. This is because ability to read and write is not required in the past, but it is priority on literacy in the information age. Understanding the importance of literacy and the potential role of writing and reading is necessary to substantiate this view. For example, knowing howw to read and write provides meaningful opportunities for people to get a job. Essentially, knowing how to read and write promotes activities that encourage people to adapt to the constantly changing environment. Such ability to adjust any situation builds a platform not only to prepare for career but also to become successful. This shows that people can get a lot benefits from knowing how to read and write.
Knowing how to read and write, to add on to the aforementioned point, encourage people to acquire wealth of information and knowledge. Specifically speaking, online news is more comprehensive and up-to-date than TV news. Today, the technical environment has changed 179 degrees. There still is, and always will be, a constraint on how much information people can mange, it is far less limiting than it used to be and will become even less so as time goes on, By knowing how to read and write, harnessing vast quantities of information rather than a small portion opens the door to new ways of understanding, In other words, having enough information provides a lot more freedom to explore, to look at the information from different angles, or to look closer at certain aspects of it. In this regard, knowing how to read and write contributes to a significant role in acquiring useful information and knowledge.
To conclude, I strongly believe that my standpoints of the two reasons are sufficiently convincing. The first is, knowing how to read and write can provide job opportunities, and utilize various information. In this regard, I believe that knowing how to read and write is beneficial for people.
