Some people think that taking care of a pet is the best method to improve children’s responsibility. However, in my opinion, caring a dog or cat is not the good way to learn responsibility since it is too difficult works for children and it is very dangerous to them as well. To begin with, caring pets are significantly difficult for young people to complete well. This is due to the fact that in order to take care of pets, people should perform a wide range of activities, such as feeding, cleaning, taking a walk with pets and checking their health. Since those are too complex and multiple, children could not finish their tasks completely and lose their interest in caring pets, and finally young children no longer take care of pets without responsibility. As a rule of thumb, for example, when I was in elementary school, my first wish was having a dog and caring it on my own. My father gave a frenchbulldog as my 10thbirthday present. At first, I was greatly happy to care of him by myself. However, I had to take a walk with him everyday after finishing school. In addition I had to clean his toilet, fill his water cups and even care about schedule of vaccine injection. It was too much works for me, and I got intensive stress about raising him. Finally, I quit the owner of a dog, and I sent him to my grandparent’s house without any sorry. On top of that, raising pets is highly dangerous work for children. This is attributed to the fact that many animals have various diseases and these illnesses sometimes are contagious. Also, most of animals have keenly tooth and this physical features of animals could negatively affect to young people. For instance, according to the study conducted by the Ministry of Education of Korea in 2010, there was a huge difference between two groups of students in elementary school. Students in Group A had a pet in the house and those in Group B had never been raising a pet. The researcher compared and recorded the outcomes that the former group of students got lower grade than latter one. This was because, students in Group A sometimes did not attend a school class because of damage from pet, one of example was a student was bitten by his pet. This study proves that caring for pets are risk for children, therefor it is not the best way for improving children’s responsibility. To sum up, to take care of pets is too challenging and harmful to perform for children, thus they do not learn responsibility from this action. In this regard, I firmly believe that raising pets is not the best way for young people in order to foster their responsible attitude.
