In the lecture, the lecturer disagrees with
the author of the reading’s assertion that there are several ways to protect
bats from threatening of white-nose syndrome(WNS), arguing that this opinion
from the article is not convincing at all.
First (철자 오류) and foremost, the speaker contends
that it is not workable to control the acidity of the caves that bats live in.
To be specific, studies have shown that the fungus which cause WNS are highly
tolerable to all kind of acid. Also, it is very difficult to control all caves
to be as highly acid. It is in opposition to the reading passage’s claim that
it can be an effective way to control the acid level of cage to remove fungus.
It is because the writer believes that the fungus can barely survive in low pH
levels.
Second, the professor from the lecture
suggests that using drug will cause more harmful effect. In detail, if we lean
on a compound of chemicals, it might kill other beneficial fungus in ecosystem.
Moreover, it will distract the ecological balance and threat other species. It
is in contrast to the writer’s idea that fungicides can remove the reason of
WNS in an effective manner because we can simply use the ready-made drugs that
are already used.
Third, according to the author of the
reading, the artificial habitat will be helpful for bats to survive. It is
mainly because the artificial set up is free from fungus. Also, the scientists
can monitor bats easily and gain a lot of useful information to protect them.
However, the lecturer offsets this point by declaring it is too impractical. There
are so many caves and bats in our nature. Thus, it is almost impossible to make
artificial caves for all bats. Furthermore, even if the bats are safe from
harmful fungus in captivity, they will be vulnerable again when they go back to
the nature.
