▶ Your Answer :
The reading and the lecture deal with the
same topic: food. Reasons of yawning. The author of the reading feels that
there are three possible explanations of yawning. The lecturer challenges the
claims made by the author. He is of the opinion that those claims do not hold water.
To begin with, the author argues that
yawning could be the way of communication without speaking. This specific argument
is challenged by the lecturer. He claims that it is easily refuted, for
communication is not the goal. This is because people are also yawning when
they are alone. Additionally, she says that if yawing is a way to communicate,
why people cover their mouth as they are with others?
Secondly, the writer suggests that by
yawning so, pressure in the ear can be equal with the around air pressure. The
lecturer, however, challenges that there is no evidence. He elaborates on this
by bringing up the point that people yawn in anywhere anytime not only in the circumstances
of high altitude.
Finally, the author posits that yawning is
a mean of increasing awakening. In contrast, the lecturer’s position is that yawning
cannot prevent the feeling of tiredness. Ho notes that while people yawn, their
muscle would be stretched, so they feel relax.
