▶ Your Answer :
Most people would like to increase their job satisfaction by
taking an interesting and challenging job to learn skills and knowledge as well
as to build their capacities. However, welfare is as much as important to find
a satisfying job. Nevertheless, it is difficult to have a job which is interesting
and challenging with a lot of holidays in real. In this regard, we may need to
choose either job satisfaction or welfare. From my perspective, welfare with enough
holidays would be a more critical factor to choose a job.
First of all, people can be easily exhausted physically and
mentally if there is no holiday. No matter how much interesting and challenging
a job is, it is obvious that everyone needs a time to take a break and refresh
themselves away from working. This time can help people to maintain their focus
on their job and build their career more constantly in a long term perspective.
For example, when I worked at the Korean Environment Research Center in 2018, I
had a chance to participate in an interesting but challenging research project.
I had to spend every evening and even weekends to find more articles and
finalize the project on time, which made me physically and mentally tired and harsh
to concentrate on my work. My supervisor finally advised me to take a three day
off during the national holiday, and I got relaxed and gained more energy to
continue to work on it. After coming back to the office, I was able to finish
my project more efficiently and effectively.
Secondly, holidays can help people keep the balance between
work and life. In the modern society, it is very important to maintain
work-life balance. During holidays, people can enjoy leisure time with family
and friends. According to the recent study published by Seoul National
University, more holidays employees have, more positive they are at work. Also,
the study adds that employees with positive energy are likely to consider their
job more interesting even though they are not perfectly interested in it at the
beginning.
In this regard, I would prefer having a job with more
holidays although it is not very interesting and challenging. |
