▶ Your Answer : The reading and the lecture are about whether the Etruscan civilization had come from Turkey. The author of reading argues that Etruscans have same roots of Turkish. However, the lecturer cast doubt on this opinion. He’s rather thinking they were just descendants of its own region. To begin with, as a result conducted by some Italian scientists, the author claims that Etruscans are connected to Turkish. DNA found in Etruscan remains showed particular linkage with ancient Turks. But, lecturer said regardless of conducting over 2000 DNA surveys, it’s hard to believe whether the results are reliable, because for over 1000 years, the DNA has been damaged, and contaminated by people. Secondly, the author assert the Etruscans language was from Turkey beacsue they have similar alphabet with Turkish. And unlike other languages, such as Greek, or Latin, it shows different feature comparing those languages. Meanwhile, the lecturer reckon similarity between two languages can not be a reason of the link of them. Also, it doesn’t share same language family with other language for example, Italy. Finally, the author point out that cremation of the Etruscans and Turks has homogeneous funerary practice. And no other groups in Italy at the moment has common elements of cremation. The lecturer challenges this point. Northern Italian had has the same funerary practices even before the Etruscans arrived. Rather, he argues that they were just the offspring of the region. |
