Notice from
Library Administration As of next semester, the university library will
begin charging a fee for overdue library materials. The administration feels
that late fees are a necessary response to the recent increase in late
returns. This policy will ensure all students have equal access to library
resources. Furthermore, the extra funds will go towards expanding and
maintaining the library’s collection. This will allow our university to
uphold its reputation for having one of the most comprehensive libraries in
the country. |

Plans to Expand
Library System Student enrollment and university research projects
have been on the rise. As a result, over-crowding of the library system has
become a major concern. The administration feels it can best serve students’
needs with one of two alternatives. One plan would be to expand the main
library by about 30 percent. The other plan would be to build a new library
on a now-empty lot near South Campus. This is the more expensive option but,
as with other libraries, the new facility would include a food court,
computer lab, and lecture hall. |

Mandatory Study
Groups for History Students The university’s History Department is implementing
a mandatory study group policy for its introductory classes. All students are
required to register for study groups. Being part of a study group will be
more helpful than studying individually due to the complex nature of the
classes. Student will learn the material more thoroughly by discussing it
with others. Also, participation in the study groups will affect the overall
grades in courses. Therefore, regular attendance at these groups is
essential. Being absent often can result in lower course grades. |

Mandatory
Internship Program Starting this school year, all students will be
required to complete a three-month internship program in order to graduate.
According to the university president, this policy will provide students with
valuable work experience in their fields of interest. Students will be able
to get hands-on experience in setting such as an accounting firm, hotel,
investment company, or government office. These types of employers will all
be participating in the university’s new internship program. Furthermore, by
participating in the internship program, students will gain a more
comprehensive and practical education in the fields they are interested in. |

Internet,
Anyone? The university is finally putting student dollars to
use to move into the future. We, the newspaper staff, congratulate the
administration on tis plans to install wireless Internet access on campus.
This step makes it possible for students to use their own laptops, reducing
congestion in campus computer labs. We only hope there’ll be enough access
points to make it worth the investment.
