3. According to the reading, a university is planning to purchase multimedia equipment for every classrooms.
The man does not think it is a good idea for two reasons.
First, he says that introducing equipment to classroom will not help the lecture more interesting. To be specific, whether the lecture is fun or not depends on its content. So explaining dull materials in a new way cannot lead to more interesting class.
Second, making professors convenient is not enough to justify lots of expenses. The university should only buy necessary equipment after considering the particular characters of each class. This helps the university save more money for other projects and spend money for better use.
For these reasons, the man believes the university's plan should be corrected.
4. According to the reading, place marking refers to applying branding and sales techniques to market the region.
The professor uses an example to explain this concept.
First, he explains that the city could make us of its distinct feature such as beautiful ice. To be specific, the city is able to organize annual snow festival. Also they advertise themselves as winter wonderland through various promotion methods.
Second, he mentions that the result would be positive. To be specific, the city could raise its profile as a host to organize famous snow festival. As a result, a lot of tourists would visit the city, leading to the increased tourism revenue in the city.
This example illustrates place marketing.
5. The man's problem is that he do not know how students felt about the field trip because students did not participate in giving sincere opinions about it.
The woman and the man suggest two possible solutions to the problem. The first suggestion is to arrange a discussion during class. The second suggestion is to simplify previous feedback form into multiply choice.
I think that second suggestion is better for him. This is because if he tries to receive feedback during class, everyone will hesitate to present their truthful reviews of the field trip. Also, even though multiple-choice form has some limitations for getting detailed reviews, he can still receive significant information like negative opinions that he wants.
For these reasons, I would recommend the second suggestion for him.
6. The professor explains how cooperation among animals occurs by giving two examples.
First, she describes prey capture. For example, a bottlenose dolphin divides their role when hunting. Out of 5 or 6 members, 1 dolphin drives fishes toward others that form barriers to prevent fishes from escaping. Also the dolphin that is in charge of driving also makes loud noise, which makes it easier for other dolphins to snatch fishes.
Second, she describes predator avoidance. For example, an anchovies travels in group. When a predator comes close to the group, a few of the group detect the predator and respond immediately to avoid the predator. This evasive action is subsequently followed by other fishes, leading to the increased possibility of escape.
These examples demonstrates two cooperative behaviors among animals.
