The importance of child obesity, which was
always debatable, has now become one of the most controversial agenda in
today’s society. This essay will deal about the underlying reason behind this phenomenon
and the solution to this problem.
To begin with, increasing number of fast
foods and advertisements are the primary cause for child obesity. It is no
secret that fast foods contain high proportion of saturated fats, which is a component
that contributes the most to obesity. Although children nowadays are educated
that fast foods have detrimental effect on our body at home, advertisements are
used as marketing strategy for many companies to attract young consumers.
Unlike the past – when most teenagers ate from their home – most children are
now financially independent to buy whatever they like. Therefore, children’s
increased exposure to various fast foods and advertisements has resulted on
rise in children being overweight.
In order to tackle this issue, number of
actions can be taken. Despite the fact that danger of fast food is often
discussed at home, it is vital for the schools to inform the youth about the possible
risk of having obesity and the consequences of being overweight (such as chance
of getting diabetes). Categorically discussing, many students credit what is
being taught in the formal curriculum than what their parents teach.
Furthermore, government should legislate a new law demanding companies,
producing foods that contribute towards obesity, to address the danger of the
products they make like what cigarette companies are doing. By doing so, the
number of child obesity will decrease dramatically and general health among the
youth will develop.
To conclude, solving a global issue like
this is not easy but with the joint efforts of the people, a control can be
taken over the problem with the aforementioned suggested measures. Raising the
awareness of the children on this issue can solve this phenomenon in the most
effective and efficient way as possible. |
