Thanks
to the remarkable development of scientific technologies, people in modern
society have enjoyed high standards of living. Among them, the advent of new
telecommunication methods such as internet and mobiles brought about dramatic
changes in the form of communication. The convenience and efficiency of new
technologies gradually let people forget the importance of face to face
communication. Regarding this phenomenon, some people believe that this old
form of communication is already anachronistic. When considering the unique
features of face to face conversation, no other communication methods can
substitute its importance.
Communication
is one of the best examples of human interactions that entail not only
information exchange but also the communion
of emotion with each other. It is undeniable that development of emails and
text messages are more convenient in comparison with the face to face conversation regarding accessibility and efficiency. People
can easily get access to a variety of articles from their smartphones or keep
in touch with their friends and family without
spending much time to do so. However, as these forms of communication are not
able to exchange the emotion between the people, communication, based on cyberspace, is not in the state of perception.
If people need to talk about something in earnest, particularly when they have job interviews, proposing something or apologizing
for their mistakes, it is much better to speak face to face as it helps their
counterparts to understand the speakers’ sincerity.
Human
beings are social animals that keep interacting with one another as a member of
society. Therefore, no matter how the science and technologies advance, nothing
can prevent people from meeting each other. Although people have imperfection
in many ways, they improve themselves through cooperation, opinion-sharing or argument.
That is the primary purpose and reason for
life. Sharing ideas or talking to someone by taking advantage of artificial communication
systems can mimic face to face conversation,
but it is wondered if the exchange of information in the absence of
emotion and gestures can effectively help people be satisfied from the imperfect interaction. Unfortunately, many
people, who are excessively dependent on communication on the cyberspace, are more
likely to suffer from depression and despondency than their counterparts.
To sum up, new communication technologies can
help people enjoy convenience in interaction with one another. Nevertheless, as
these artificial means of communication cannot entail emotion and sincerity as
face to face conversation do, it is absurd to assert that this old form of communication will be a thing of
the past.
