Undoubtedly, a major purchase plays a significant role in people’s daily lives, because people always purchase something. Some people think that information from magazines or reviews from online communities has the greater impact on people’s choices, while others say that recommendation from friends is the most affective thing to people’s purchase. If I were asked to choose one, I would say that recommendation from friends has the greater effect on people’s a major purchase. There are several reasons as follows.
First of all, a recommendation from friends is believable. Most of friends give recommendations with their real reviews. Information from magazines or reviews from online communities is likely to have fake opinions about products. Because it could be sometimes advertisements having a review style. For example, according to the Seoul National University, they investigated about 1,600 of reviews on internet. About 80% of reviews were written after reviews received free products from some companies. Therefore, only 11% of reviews contained disadvantages of products. Also, in case of magazines, 40% of editors just copied information of products from the companies selling the products. This means that people would not get valuable and believable reviews or information from magazines and online communities.
In addition, the product which was recommended from friends could be more closed to people’s preferences. Many friends know about their friends well. When people recommended products, they considered knowledge of their friends. Therefore, it could fit on friends’ preferences more. For instance, in my case, last year, I was considered whether I would buy a Samsung laptop or a Macbook. When I told about it, my friend recommended me a Macbook. After I bought it, I was really satisfied. Therefore, I asked to my friends why you recommended a Macbook for me. He said that he knew me few years, and he thought that I liked using laptop for image processing. And Macbook is better to use image processing tool application. This indicates that people recommended some products based on their friends’ traits, so it could be more useful to their friends.
All in all, I think that recommendation from closed people has the greater impact on people’s choices.
