▶ Your Answer :
It is debatable public recognition make people work harder even
if they cannot get financial rewards since people put more emphasis on public
recognition than money. Some assert that people would not work harder without financial
rewards. However, in my opinion, without receiving extra money, people put more
efforts to their work by public recognition. This is because public recognition
enables people to have motivation to work harder and makes feel sense of satisfaction
for work.
To begin with, people can get highly motivation for their
work from the public reputation, which can make them work harder. To be
specific, people tend to have a sense of responsibilities more by the public. According
to Sandra Bem, a specialist who is a foremost in the field of psychology, said that
people can work harder when public gives them some feedback or praises. This is
because it means others know their efforts about work, which stimulates their internal
motivation for their work. The internal motivation makes people put more efforts
on their tasks without any extra rewards. That being said, people will work
harder by public reputation even thought they cannot get extra money for their work.
On top of that, the public recognition makes people have a
sense of fulfillment for their work, which brings in better result for the work.
It is obvious that people put more efforts for their work when they feel have
satisfaction for their work. An anecdote of my experience can illustrate this
idea.
When I started work in Insurance company, I had hard time for
working since everything was new for me and nobody taught me well about my tasks.
What is more, I had to do chores such as organizing paper or Making copy. I
felt frustrated about my work and I could not find any rewarding in my work. One
day, I had a chance to meet senior people in conference room. They gave me my big
praise for my efforts for the work and they told me that they got impressed my
work performance. After talking with them, I realized that my efforts are not meaningless
and felt satisfaction for my work. It made me work harder with happiness. After
all, I got a promotion in a short time. Reflecting my experience, public recognition
is crucial in terms of making people have feel sense of fulfillment about they work.
As a result, people can work harder by public recognition without receiving
money.
In a nutshell, I strongly believe that even though people cannot
make extra money from work, people would work harder by public reputation. This
is because it enables people to have a higher motivation and feel happy with their
work.
