▶ Your Answer :
What subjects we study in university is highly important because modern society admittedly requires people who learned demanding knowledge and skills. In this current society, some people think that history courses should be regarded as a required courses in all universities, and other people think it is unnecessary to force them to study history courses. Although I think that various opinion may exist on its controversial issue, however, if I should choose one, as far as I am concerned, I states that the later is my viewpoint and two ideas below presented can be valid evidence to support my view.
To begin with, I argues that student's interesting in collage is the most important priority. In this regard, forcing them to learn history courses is unreasonable. This is due to the fact that if we are forced to study what subjects we do not like, it can tremendously harmful to one's interest about studying. A research conducted by a renowned professor named Kyle Kim in Seoul National University indicates that students who study what they are interested in are tend to study harder than those with no interest, and the professor clarifies that this is because students exactly do not like to be forced to do something like this, in this regard, we need to follow student's interest and let them choosing what they want to learn. Furthermore, it also ushers them in right direction of dealing with problems in reality since they choose what they like to do and being responsible with it by themselves
On top of that, to some extent, history subject is not practical, learning some knowledge such as agrarian and nomadic lifestyles that are existing in the past is not useful to deal with problems in the present. Today's overly competitive society is full of harsh competition for entering a prestigious universities and securing a demanding job. So it is unnecessary that students learn history courses as a required courses, they should be allowed to be independent in choosing their one's subject to learn in university. If they learn its class and waste their time, they can be underestimated by companies in the future because they do not learn practical skills. Interestingly, for example, I am majored in computer science. Although my major is concerned about it, however there were a number of world history I should learn and memorize since it was a required courses in my university. I should dedicate myself to pass it during the mid-term and final exam period and have no enough time to prepare and memorize my major. As a consequence, I got a low GPA scores in the end. I think it's my shame in my university life.
To sum up, I think it is nonsensical that requiring students to learn history courses. learning in university is a quivotal moment in one's studying life, so it is very important to allow them to choose what they want to learn. In this regard, I am in complete agreement to allow students choose the courses that they are interested in
