Some
people said that children in the past were more independent on their parents
than those now. However, I disagree with the statement. The key reason is that
higher level of education and decreased parental time enable their children to
be more independent. First
of all, compared to the past, today's educational curriculums are comprised of strikingly
complicated and sophisticated concepts which demand for higher level of
understanding rather than before. Therefore, parents these days cannot teach
their children by using their own knowledges. Then, usually, it is more likely
that most of the children today learn academic skills from others such as their
school teacher at first, cyber tutors, and one of their intelligent friends.
Therefore, what it means is that today's children do not depend on their
parents that much, at least in aspect of education. In
addition, according to the research conducted in the Ministry of Education of
Korea, compared to the past days, today's parental time has decreased significantly
by up to 70 percent since the last 50 years. What it means is that today's
average parental time is about 2 to 3 hours except for sleeping time. Therefore,
after school, the children today have to manage and deal with their feeding,
clothing, and even laundary by themselves. I believe that these are the solid
and substantiated evidence on independence of children thses days from their
parents.
In brief, I strongly believe that, compared to the past, the children
today is more independent on their parents' care. This is because of higher
demanding educational level which the ordinary parents today cannot keep pace
with, and shortiage of absolute parental time for children's care. |
