▶ Your Answer :Some people say that always telling the
truth is the most important consideration in any relationship between people.
However, in my opinion, deciding not to tell the whole truth to another person
can be a wise decision in some cases. There are mainly two reasons supporting
this opinion. The first reason is that lies sometimes protect others' feelings,
and the second reason is that hiding truth can be a vital factor for protecting
national secutiry. First, telling a lie can prevent other
people's feelings from getting hurt. There are some cases where making a person
to get to know about what exactly happened to his or her situation leads to a
negative consequence. For example, let us suppose that there is a young boy who
just lost his parents due to a car accident. Answering exactly and specifically
to the boy's question about where his parents are is very likely to put him in
a tremendous sorrow that he cannot handle yet. Rather, telling him that his
parents are on a trip and will surely come back to him someday will be a much
more wiser decision in this case.
Second, not revealing all the truth is
extremely necessary for cases such as national security. If essential facts
about the nation's current economic, diplomatic, or military situations are
exposed to an enemy, it is likely to cause lethal consequences. A summit
between between the US President and North Korean leader can be an appropriate
example. When they are on a table to negotiate the matter of denuclearization
of North Korea, it is highly important for each leader to hide what they have
in mind. If, for example, the US president is thinking about bombarding North
Korea when denuclearization is denied, but still decides to tell North Korean
leader every specific detail about his opinion, it is likely to have a
disastrous effect on the summit, leading to a hugely negative impact on the
peace of Korean peninsula.
To
sum up, not telling the truth can protect others' emotions and national
security in some cases. For these reasons, I strongly believe that always
telling the truth is not the most important consideration in people's
relationships. |
