Some people think that companies should not be allowed to advertise their products directly in television programs. However, in my opinion, it is okay for me to let companies advertise their products in television programs.
First, if companies advertise their products directly in television shows, it will have a less negative effect than television commercials that come on after the program is over. Usually, in the middle of a program, there are always commercials coming on, and try to make the viewers buy the product they are advertising. People do not like these commercials a lot. For example, when I watch a television show, and see a commercial right in the middle of the show, I get frustrated, because the commercial is prohibiting me from seeing the television show. On the other hand, products that are directly advertised in television programs do not bother the viewers. The commercials go on inside the television show, so it is less frustrating for me to watch the show.
Second, the directly advertised products in the television program sometimes make viewers feel like an event in real life could happen in the program could actually happen. To give a specific example, there is a drama. This drama contains many directly advertised products, such as smartphones, cars, and medicine. This makes viewer watching the drama feel a connection between the characters in the program and themselves. They may also think ‘I had an experience like the one the characters are facing right now’, and actually become one with the character.
To sum up, directly advertised products can reduce the stress given from commercials shown in the middle of the program, as well as make the viewers feel like one of the characters in the television program. For these reasons, I agree that companies should be allowed to advertise their products directly in television programs. |
