▶ Your Answer : The reading passage talks about how revolutionary and beneficial living roofs are. However the lecturer rebuts the three points made in the reading passage, claiming that the effects of living roofs are rather exaggerated.
First, although people often hear about the city parks on a roof on news and it is true that these parks do increase the total area of park space, the thing is not a lot have the access to these buildings. There seems to be lack of point of having these parks if the majority people don't get to enjoy the park. This directly goes against the first point in the reading passage that living roofs can offer parks for residents to enjoy. Second, regarding the spectacular view these living roofs have, the lecturer, again, argues that it's hard for most people to enjoy it, because it's hard to see those parks from below where the sidewalk is. This effectively opposes the writer's point that living roofs offer a great view for the mass to enjoy. Lastly, the lecturer points out that green roofs require a large sum of money to install and maintain, rebutting the reading saying that green roofs can substantially save energy and cost. He gives an example of a company that built a living roof that it costed around two billion dollars. Not only that it costs a lot to maintain the roof, even more than it can save. For these reasons, therefore, the lecturer thinks that living roofs aren't as effective as they may seem. |
