It is often said that it is ok to use cell phones in public transportation because people have emergency matters. However, I believe that using cell phones in public transportation should not be allowed for two reasons: for safety, and for the other's sake.
To begin with, using mobile phones in public transportation can be dangerous. This is because ringing phones and talking on the phones can distract bus drivers from driving, and signals of cell phones can cause malfunction of air plane devices. According to a study conducted by Seoul National University of Korea in 2007, 80 percent of car accidents related to bus were resulted from drivers' disorientation, which caused by noise generated passengers on the phone. This implies that cell phone noise is a crucial factor affecting bus related car accidents.
In addition, using cells in public transportation makes other people around annoyed. It is obvious that people try to use public transportation mainly for commuting after a long exhausting day. Most of people feel tired and want to have quite moment to relax, but talking on the phone keep those people from taking a rest. According to a study conducted by Seoul Metro of Korea in 2009, researchers putted two groups of people in two subway train with different environments: train A with five guys who are talking on the phone, and train B without them. After ten minutes, the researchers assessed stress level of groups. The result shows that stress level of group A is five times higher than that of group B. This shows that cell phone users raise stress level of others.
In brief, using mobile phones should be prohibited in public transportation because it is dangerous, and irritates people. All in all, we should be more discreet and consider others when it comes to use cell phones in public transportation. |
