Today, advertising their products are common in many industries. The firms spend a lot of money on their advertisements. Some people would claim that advertising their items are wasteful as long as customers has a clear insight on what they want to buy. Other people would insist that advertisement is necessary for the companies because customers may not know what they need to buy. In my opinion, as people's acknowledgement of what they would buy, advertising the products can be wasteful because it is not highly influential when people buy the products, and the customers can get information about the products without the advertisements from the firms.
First of all, advertising the products can be wasteful because it is not so influential when the customers buy the items, given that they know what they would buy. The customers, once they determine their minds on what they would like to buy from some company, do not change their minds just because the advertisements from the other companies appeals them to do so. Consumers can usually chose what they want to buy based on their previous experiences, or the price. As long as they know what they need based on their previous experiences, the advertisement from the other companies can not be attractive to them. Rather, advertising some items raises the price of the products for the customers. For example, many people in Korea has their own favorite kind of cheese from various companies. They know that which cheese they need for the next week. Although the cheese companies can advertise their new items, the customers is not willing to eat the new kinds of cheese instead of their favorite ones. For the firms, advertising some items is not so powerful to change the minds of the customers, and can waste their money, time and effort.
Next, as long as people realize what they need, advertisement is not necessary because the customers can get information about the products from many other ways, such as the internet. Most of customers, before they require to buy some items, searche the basic information on the subject. In detail, it is usual that the customers will look at the nutrient facts before they buy what they want to eat. Advertising the products are not attractive to the customers as long as they can search enough information about the products. For example, in Korea, the internet shopping is highly common. This is partly because people can get enough information about the products and compare with other similar products. Without the advertisement, people can make the wisest purchase based on the high-qualified information from companies and previous purchasers. With a frequent communications in the society, people can get abundant information from various sources, which lessens the importance of the advertising the products for the firms.
In conclusion, granted that the customers know what they want to buy, advertising the items can waste time and money for the firms, because consumers are not highly influenced by the advertisement itself and more accustomed to buy their favorites. Also, people can get enough information and explanations about the products from different kinds of ways, such as the internet. It would be more beneficial for companies to improve the quality of the products, and fit the accurate taste of the customers in the society. |
