Some people believe that buying only domestic products regardless of prices is the right thing to do. However, I do not support the aforementioned idea. I feel this way for two main reasons, which I will explore in the following essay.
To begin with, supporting domestic goods regardless of high cost does not promote the manufacturing companies to improve their products. In general, companies compete with each other, and by competition, they enhance their products’ qualities and lower prices to appeal to future customers. If customers keep buying their goods notwithstanding unreasonable prices, would they spend more time and money to upgrade the items? I highly doubt about that. For example, in South Korea, when people need to buy a new vehicle, they consider a Korean brand car as a the first choice. It is well known that Koreans have been favoring (and supporting) their domestic automobiles over foreign ones, however the outcome is not desirable. The Korean car companies not only charge more money but also provide lower features to their customers in the domestic market. In addition, while many German car companies have high reputation in the global automobile industry, Korean vehicles are rather well known for low prices and free maintenance services. (이 문장이 의도하는 것이 무엇인지? 문단 내의 역할이 불분명합니다. 그대로 삭제해도 괜찮아보이기도..) Favoritism may have played an important role to hinder the development of Korean car industry.
On top of that, buying foreign products over domestic ones could be more economical. As I mentioned earlier, companies compete with one another in order to make more profit. Many imported items are highly competitive and it often brings an ideal situation for customers. Due to high competition among imported products, their prices tend to be much more affordable while maintaining high qualities. For instance, I recently bought a new smart phone. Before this time, I had always bought Korean brand smart phones such as Samsung or LG, but this time I did not have enough money. The man who was selling smart phones recommended me to consider one from China. At first, I did not feel tempted, however when I reviewed the features and cost, it looked like a really good deal. After all, I purchased the phone, and I probably saved over $200 U.S. United States dollars when compared with buying a similar phone made in South Korea.
To sum up, when you purchase products you should also consider foreign ones because buying only domestic goods does not contribute to the development of domestic companies and it can also save your money. In this regard, I firmly believe that it is not wise to buy only domestic goods than foreign ones regardless of prices.
