Opinions maybe
divided over whether it is more important to improve the ability to relate well
to people than to study hard in school in order to successful jobs. People of
various ages and different walks of life may take diverse positions on this
controversial issue. We cannot deny the fact that preparing job exam and
preference of companies play an important role in our lives. Personally,
therefore, I disagree that people should consider social skills more important
than studying their areas.
First of all,
studying hard is much more useful to prepare for a job examination and a job
interview. The following personal observation can reveal the importance of
studying hard. For example, my older sister Julia has worked at a prestigious
company, Samsung in Seoul and she is recognized as one of the most successful
figures in her company. When I asked how she entered the company, she said that
what she had learned in her university helped her prepare a job interview. She
went on to say that it is considerably useful for her to study her major books
because the concept which was written on her major books was given in the job
examination. This clearly shows how important people should study hard.
Second, a lot of
corporations prefer people who study hard to people who have the ability to
relate well to others. Beyond my personal experience, there are many articles
that can support my argument. I read an editorial from the Dong-A Daily News
that is related to the topic. It describes the results of a survey conducted by
Seoul National University economic researchers with more than 500 job
interviewers. Of 500 people surveyed, 80 percent of them agreed that they preferred
students who had good grades because they thought it showed their efforts. The
respondents went on to say that even though people who had good social skills
might have various benefits, in fact, they did not good well at their
workloads. This clearly proves that studying hard in school is much more useful
to enter a successful job than improving social skills.
As mentioned above, based on
the example of my friend Julia and the survey conducted by Seoul National
University economic researchers, I can conclude that people have to focus on
studying hard in order to get a successful job. |
