These days, it is definitely true that many people are familiar with nascent technologies such as e-book system. This movement is led by the internet, and as it is widely spreaded, e-books are also quickly spreaded. However, I do not think that although printed books are already threatened by those nouveau technologies, they would not disappear even if time goes. To begin with, conventional books do not need electricity. This is crucial because it means that we can read printed books whenever we want to read. For example, if we want to use e-book system, we definitely should have electricity. Even if we have electric devices such as mobile phones or laptop computers, we still have to recharge them frequently or bring additional batteries. Moreover, in some places such as high mountains or remote islands, we cannot connect into the internet, so we cannot read e-books. On the other hand, printed books are not dependant on electricity. On top of that, printed books are more easy to find information. Some people predicate that it is too difficult to find information in printed books. But there are always appendixes in the last pages, and using appendixes is quite simple. So if we use them properly, we can easily get information we want to find. More importantly, we can look at much more pages at one time if we read printed books. If we choose to read e-books, we cannot look at many pages at one time because monitors are not that wide enough to present all those pages. In contrary, if we read printed books and want to check many pages, we can just put our fingers or things such as clips or small pieces of paper at pages that we want to keep. And whenever we need to look at those pages, we can flip to those pages simply. Thus, we can look at much more pages if we read printed books. To encapsulate, printed books do not need electricity, so those are nearly always available. Moreover, printed books are more easy to find information because we can look at many pages at one time. Therefore, I firmly believe that people will continue to use printed books. |
