▶ Your Answer : Opinions differ over whether people must read a newspaper rather than watch TV to truly understand events happening around the world. I personally dispute the claim that people are required to read newspapers for complete comprehension of the state of affair of the world. I believe that even though reading the newspaper is of course helpful for understanding events in the world, there is no problem for people to figure out completely the affairs occurred in the world by watching the television. First, the television can deliver more informations than the newspapers do. Second, the television has unparalleled abilities to show up the events accurately like the audiences really experience them. To begin with, the amount of information brought to the people who watch the television is bigger than that delivered to the audiences of the newspaper. Legitimately, what the opposing side argues may seem to have a point. Their assertion is that while the television has the limitation since it usually depends on the verbal method when it comes to delivering the information, the newspaper makes the people who read it to acquire lots of facts and analyses with regard to the events which the newspaper describes. Nonetheless, for the most part, their reasoning is groundless and barely compelling. To their dismay, there exists a flood of attestation that debunks their reasoning. Whereas the newspaper is distributed once a day to the people, the television can bring the information throughout the day. Let me show you one of the example of the event that a cruise have sunk with lots of children and teachers. The audiences could not be satisfied with the content of the newspapers dealing with the accident since the newspapers are distributed once a day and they lacked the details such as when and who was able to escape from the sinking ship or whether rescuing process was doing well at the time, making the people anxious to the incident and pathetic children hard to grasp the real circumstance of the accident. Naturally, most of people who tended to the television where they could get the detailed information whenever they want to do by watching the television and they easily understood the state of affair of the accident than those who only relied on the newspaper. Furthermore, the television can give the audiences the experiences closer to real events than the newspapers do through its visual and acoustic materials. When the people read the contents of certain event through newspapers, there is a tendency that he or she consider it just a story far from the reality. So, they often overlook the importance or urgency of the event, failing to comprehend the state of affair. The television, however, can help the audiences understand the significance of the event more effectively by encouraging them to think as a real person who actually involved in the circumstance through its visual and aural abilities which are more powerful than those of the newspaper which only counts on the dull characters on its page. Advocates of the other side of the topic may raise several arguments against this belief. Still, to withstand their vigorous scrutiny, I have a flood of evidence to offer. For instance, in a series of relevant surveys a vast majority of respondents who contacted to the information through the newspaper with regard to the severe natural disaster in their countries considered the disaster to be ordinary and were not willing to help those suffered from it whereas the subjects who noticed the disaster through the television were more likely to help refugees empathizing the sorrow of them. To sum up, the television can be a powerful tool to comprehend our world and it’s events. This is because, the television is able to bring more information to it audiences than the newspaper do thanks to its lengthy broadcasting time. Last but not least, the people who watch the television can feel like he or she is experiencing the events of the world through the television’s vivid and realistic visual and aural method of deliverance. |
