In the reading passage there is ample support for the author's claim that there are a lot of methods to reduce atmospheric CO2 levels by involving storing CO2 in the ground or oceans. However, the professor in the lecture gives several reasons as a rebuttal to the author's claim.
First of all, the professor contends that increasing the number of phytoplankton which absorb CO2 by adding irons to h the ocean actually does not work. If the number of phytoplankton increases are increased, nitrogen would be exhausted. Then, phytoplankton will be decreased. Thus it will absorb little atmospheric CO2, about just 3% of all atmospheric CO2. This casts doubt on the reading passage's claim that increasing phytoplankton reduces atmospheric CO2 levels because when phytoplankton die died, they sink to the bottom of the ocean taking the CO2 with them.
Next, the professor insists that making artificial wetlands is an ineffective method. Artificial wetlands contains 23% less than natural wetlands. Also, it will take too long to fully developed. This counters the reading passage's claim that creating artificial wetland which is covered by water, .(문장을 제대로 끝내주세요.....) Therefore it prevents oxygen to be from being absorbed to the soil.
Finally, the professor argues that storing CO2 in abandoned coal mines is problematic. If CO2 is burned with coils, this process will produce methane witch contains carbon. Also, CO2 will lick out from intervals of the coil mines. This refutes the reading passage's suggestion that storing to store CO2 in abandoned coal mines by capturing from power plants using special filters installed in smokestacks.
