▶ Your Answer :
In the reading passages, there are ample
supports for the author’s claims that the Etruscans migrated from Turkey.
However, the professor in the lecture gives several reasons that as a rebuttal
to be author’s points .
First, the professor contends that DNA evidence
which demonstrates the Etruscans have Turkish roots is doubtful. She says that
DNA from the remains damaged because it is from thousands years ago, so it’s
hard to believe. Also, considering the contacts with many people, it is likely
to be contaminated. This cast doubts on the reading passage’s claim that DNA
and genetic markers of the Etruscan have links with Turks.
Second, the professor insists that the
language used by the Etruscan cannot be substantiated that it came from Turkey.
There are many cases that different languages have similar alphabet. Also, it
is possible that they are only surviving of language family. This counters the
reading passage’s assertion that language indicates that they came from Turkey
because they have similar alphabet with Turks and their language is differ from
the Indo-European languages.
Finally, the professor argues that there is
no reason the Turks and the Etruscans shared funerary practices. This is
because the Etruscan is successor of tradition of local region. Also, there are
similar cremations in Italy. This counters the author’s suggestion that the
Turks and the Etruscans has a link that they shared funerary practices because
they cremated their dead and no other living in northern Italy at the time had
those cremation. |
