▶ Your Answer :
Undoubtedly, playing sports plays a vital role in
people’s daily lives in many of the places where they work or play. Some people
think that playing sports teaches people important lessons while others do not.
Both sides may have their own reasons to support their views. If I had to choose
one, I would say that playing sports teaches people crucial lessons about
life. There are several reasons as follows.
To begin with, playing sports teaches people important
lessons about life because playing sports with others allows them to improve
their sense of responsibility. Playing sports with others requires many obligations
such as managing time, abiding by rules, and respecting others. When such
obligations are fulfilled, they are likely to realize that it brings about a
good result. For example, my youngest brother used to be lazy and selfish.
However, he has changed little by little after he started to join a soccer
club. He realized that his punctuality could help him play with others more
easily while his laziness could negatively affect everyone. Naturally, he
became more prompt with time, played his position better, and even encouraged
others to show their performance better. Without this experience, he would
still have been irresponsible.
In addition, playing sports teaches people important
lessons about life because it can help people improve their work performance.
Playing sports regularly enables them to relax and recharge their batteries
after a long day at work. When people are recharged, they are likely to have
more energy to put into working and being active. For example, Tokyo University
found a huge difference between two groups of young adults in academic
performance. One group consisted of those who had spent two hours a week
playing sports, and the other group was made up those who had not. The
researchers found that the former was more likely to have a higher score on the
SAT than the latter. In particular, the first group showed a longer attention
span, a stronger passion in their tasks, and a better ability to delay
gratification. On the other hand, the second group tended to get distracted
easily, procrastinate, and act on impulse. This implies that playing sports is
the key to success, academically as well as professionally. Without refreshing
themselves by playing sports, they will not able to realize the importance of
relaxation.
All things considered, I strongly believe that playing
sports teaches people important lessons of life for the reasons I have
mentioned above. All in all, the importance of playing sports cannot be
underestimated.
