Extinction of minor language is becoming top concerns among public as one language is widely used in virtuallyevery society. Some believe that having little number of language is more convenientfor people when others disagree. While I strongly agree that having communal languageis important for global society, I hold the view that minor languages should beappreciated from cultural perspective.
With upcoming global society, it became important for people to speak the same language to share the idea and notions in order to cooperate. To elaborate, English is considered international language and it is required qualification in many parts of the world. From office to university, various knowledge and information is being translated into English and shared among various minds and with no doubt, fewer language selection as such would make this process much easier. In that sense, it is true that preserving dominant language will make one’s life easier in the future. However, extinction of the languages should be taken as a serious matter because language represents culture of one's society. Language reflects various perspective of that society, directing us what they cherish and highlight the most. This is why language has been the most valuable academic source for studying human minds as well as human history. If we do not take any measures to prevent them from disappearing, then we do not know what we depriving ourselves from learning what kinds of value those society holds and it even effects our future. For example, scholars who study lingustics tries to make interpretation through pictogram of Egypt because itclosely relates to its history as well as our future. Considering all this, having fewer languages might lessen the burden of learning several languages for some people but minor language should be protected to some degree due to its valuable potential. |
