▶ Your Answer :
There are various opinions on the reasons for learning a foreign language. Some people assert that most people start studying it only for having a trip to or working in another country, while othere contradict the opinion because there are additional reasons. I will outline both views of this issue and state my own opinion.
To begin with, it is clear that trip and work in abroad are the only rational reasons for mastering additional language because an ability of language in fluncy is a basic requirment to acheive these two aims. To be specfic, they should be able to communicate with foreigners in any cases. If body language ,for instance,is one way to interact with people from other countries, there would be more likelihood of missing opportunaties to gain what they really intend to in a foreign country. Thus acquiring a foreign language is an essential attribute for trip and work in abroad.
However, others claim that it cannot be said these are the only reasons. This is becuase a few people's aims to master a foreign language is in order to read an original classic novel or gain a specific job that requires a high level of languages skill like a interpreter. For example, according to a recent survey conducted by foreign langauge academic institution, through the categories chosen by respondents, it can be oberserved that the a high-income job and competitiveness category also were reported as common reasons. This is beacuse they are more likely to enhance their own competitiveness even in a homeground as people have more languages availble to speak. Thus other reasons were clearly shown.
In conclusion, I strongly believe that even if the majority reasons for mastering a newly language are for trip to or work in a foreign country, there are a fewer people having another personal reason. As we all have our own specific stories that are different from others. Thus it cannot be defined by one reason. |
