It is quite common these days for young people in many countries to have a break from studying after graduating from high school. While others believe that travelling and working before entering university is not essential things to do, personally I believe that having gap year is definitely vital to be grown up as a mature adult.
It can be argued that gap year might be waste of time, since experiences that students are expect to have in their gap year doesn't necessarily need to be done during that time. For example, it is possible for students to get a job in spare time and go travel in vacation as well. In addition, after becoming a member of society, they get much more paid than the money than what they used to earn as a student, and they could have many chances to travel having more financial leeway as well. Without having specific plans and goals, I would be easy to spend a valuable time in vain.
However, by working in gap year, pupils would be free from concerns related to money like tuition fee and living expenses which might disturb study. Also, they could learn value of money and sociality and achieve independence financially. Another benefit is that they have not been given enough chances to know themselves, as students have been focusing on only studying to enter university. Spending a gap year experiencing variety things that pupils have not done before would be crucial opportunity to explore themselves. Based on that, they are able to design their future in detail. As a result, gap year would be a precious asset to live for the rest of their lifetime.
In conclusion, I would argue that gap year would act as a proper guidance so that it serves as a momentum to get motivation in terms of accomplishments in their future. |
