The
question of whether same grade should be given to group members after a team
project is still controversial. However, there is a more persuasive opinion
that giving different grades based on the level of contribution benefits
members of group to be motivated.
To
begin with, some people think that teamwork between members is important in
order to achieve their tasks in a group, because of this even grade should be
marked. In this regards, people in favor of this argue that overall result
should be considered to grade a group itself, not the contribution of each
member. For example, students in a certain university answered to a survey that
they learned how to accomplish a goal as a group through the project evaluated
on overall result.
Nevertheless,
there are people consisting that different grades should be allocated based on
the contribution of members. By doing this, each individual would be more
proactive to participate the team project and eventually lead to a success of
group tasks. Moreover, in real societies, people who do not their part have to
deal with the consequences. For instance, in a sports team, best players get
the highest salaries, but incompetent players get replaced or traded to other
teams. Thus, allocating different grades would motivate each member of team.
To
conclude, while there are several benefits to grading same score to a group
project regardless of abilities of members, it is evident that the advantages
of grading differently according to their contribution outweighs the former argument.
