With an increase
of life expectancy, people have give more attention to pay for medical expenses. However,
whether to spend money on treatment, or to invest in raising citizen’s
conscious of healthy living (prevent 등의 단어를 넣어주시면 좋을 것 같습니다.) is a debatable issue. I agree with an idea that governments
should provide more financial support to encourage a healthier lifestyle.
To begin with,
it is true that spending money on improving cure system can be also effective for
patients. However, too much emphasis on treatment is more likely that people
miss important opportunities to reduce the risk and face remaining treatment or
trauma. Therefore, prevention is better than cure to produce appropriate
treatment outcomes. In particular, healthy eating habits and regular physical activities activity
play a considerable role in preventing certain diseases including cancer and
heart disease. According to a research, it has definite connection between cancer
rates and unhealthy diet and poor lifestyle.
In addition,
from an economic perspective, prevention of illness will be greatly beneficial to
reducing massive financial burden. Educating and advertising a healthy lifestyle can
be highly cost-effective. That is because treating a patient who is suffering from
long-term diseases costs more and the investment expenses of development of new
cures are needed much funds. For example, the Korean government has raised the price of cigarette price and introduced health warnings on the package to discourage
smoking and improve public health. As a result, this scheme decreased is decreasing
related costs to the healthcare system and the number of people affected by
lung cancer.
In conclusion, I
argue that the national budget should be paid to prevention efforts in order to
reducing economic burden and healthy life.
