▶ Your Answer : Advances in transport, technology, and communication have given rise to the phenomenon of globalisation. In particular, the exchange of ideas between countries and cultures has never been freer in any time in history. However, the declining level in the usage of a few minor languages in turn is an unfortunate result.
One major language as a lingua franca or bridge language has been widely recommended to use. If a country is to become globally competitive either in business or the labour market, it is imperative for it to understand and utilize such dominant international languages such as Arabic, Chinese, Spanish, and especially English. A corporation might locally succeed without it but growth in the bigger national or international market will be likely to be curtailed.
However, the advancement in communication has not all been positive. As a result of a shifing of allegiance to the second language, cultural ramifications must not be ignored. This happens when less and less people are using their mother tongue. Culture makes language and language revolves around culture. Therefore, the demise of one means the same for the other.
Consequently, utilising one dominant language has brought obvious benefits to a lot of countries. Nevertheless, the dwindling usage or even extinction of many minor languages should be addressed. Language death means a loss of cultural identity. It is therefore believed that Individuals should continue using their mother tongue and take pride in their distinct cultural heritage.
