▶ Your Answer :
There are some governments which recommend
their citizens to use renewable energy due to some negative consequences caused by using fossil fuels. Although there are some reasons to justify their argument, in my
opinion, the wide use of alternative energy is very skeptical for some reasons.
On the one hand, I can understand why some governments
advocate renewable energy source.
Most importantly, the emission from fossil fuel is the main cause of global
warming. Fossil fuels produce green
house gases such as carbon dioxides which trap sun light into atmosphere of the
earth, resulting in the rise of global climate. Accordingly, compared to fossil
fuels, renewable energy seems cleaner and more environmentally friendly.
Another drawback is that fossil fuel is widely exhausted. Gas and oil deposit are predicted to be ran out within several decades. On the contrary, solar and wind
power are sustainable and virtually inexhaustible.
Nevertheless, I do not agree with the
prolonged use of renewable energy. Firstly, it is also environmentally
detrimental since it relies on technologies which cause some environmental problems.
For example, construction of windmills destroys wild animals’ habitats, and
ocean power stations also affect marine ecology. Secondly, although it is true that solar and wind power are renewable, but it also true that they have no commercial value. They mainly depend on weather conditions, meaning inconsistent energy supply; current technology allows supplementary battery for only several hours. In addition, sustainable
energy is not cheap. According to many researches, generating energy from sun,
wind and ocean costs enormously. As a result, renewable energy will impose
expensive taxes on consumers, making only the richer accessible to enough amount
of energy.
In conclusion, energy from both fossil fuels and alternative energy sources have negative impact on nature and limitation to use consistently. Therefore, although there is no sharpen solution, what I can be ensure is that the
encouragement of wide use of renewable energy is not a positive development.
