It is a common
belief that releasing personal information of violent criminals should be avoided
to keep the privacy of the criminals protected and prevent the criminals from
social prejudice. However, there is a more persuasive opinion that the
information of the criminals should be publicized to keep the society safe from
criminal repetitions.
On the one hand,
people say that it should be prohibited to let the public know the personal
information of the criminals because the prejudice given to the society by
releasing the information would be an invasion of (기존의 표현은 구어체에 가깝기 때문에 바꿔드렸습니다.) privacy invasion and become a huge
obstacle for criminals to get a chance to work and function as a member of
society again later. It is reported that the failure to an adjustment to the
society for the criminals due to the lack of position to work could be a source
causing another crime.
Nevertheless, announcing
the crime of offenders would be helpful enough to protect the community. It has
a benefit to publicize the criminal information in terms of prohibiting the
repetition of the crime. For examples, in case of sexual criminals, once the
law to handcuff electric bracelets to the offenders has been introduced,
neighbors could be able to notice a delinquent and keep an eye on the abnormal
behaviors more easily and report those to the police more effectively. Thus, it
could not only reduce the recurrence of the crime but also protect the
community itself from the crimes.
To sum up, while
it is apparent to keep the criminal information uncover in order to give them a
chance to be a member of the community, it is obvious that it is more
important to protect the community by sharing the information of the criminals. |
