It is true that the
rate of crimes committed by criminals after release from jail never decreases the
job market is harsh for them. While this is a serious problem, it can be solved
by implementing a law which provides an opportunity for criminals to find a job
after finishing their duty.
The main
cause of recidivism is that people having criminal records have a difficulty in
finding a job. Many owners have a prejudice over criminals, and it makes them
hesitate to hire criminals. According to a recent survey, 80% of employers answered
that a clean criminal record is the first criteria they consider when hiring
employees because it shows how well a person follows a rule. On the contrary, 70%
of criminals answered that they committed the same crime again merely to make
ends meet since they do not have any marketable skill.
Nevertheless,
there are solutions to this problem. One of the ways to solve this issue is to establish
a quota to hire former convicts. There are some occupations which people
neglect to choose voluntarily, such as farming, cleaning high-rise skyscrapers,
and delivering products. The drudgery is necessary to a society,
and criminals can fill the role. In fact, a criminal protection act has
implemented in the United States since 2000. Going through a trial and error,
this policy became prevalent in unattractive fields. In addition, the rate of
recidivism experiences a gradual decline over the past two decades by earning a
steady income.
In conclusion, it is clear that many criminals
commit crimes after finishing an imprisonment period to earn a living. Nonetheless,
this issue can be resolved by setting a policy to hire a certain portion of criminals
in non-popular jobs. |
