Some experts claim that in the near future, teachers will be substituted by computers which can serve educational services. Although it is undeniable that computers take workload off teachers’ shoulders, teachers cannot be replaced by them.
First of all, face-to-face education, which is the traditional education method, is more effective than the computer-based one. For example, if ready-made online classes with computers are served, students may not have chances to ask their questions about the classes in real time. That is, even though online classes offer a high-quality education, it is vital for students to have a direct interaction with their teachers because they may lose their interest to study while waiting for the answer from their online teacher, bringing about the lower academic achievements.
On top of that, teachers in school do not only provide their students with academic teaching. During the learning in school with their teachers, pupils can learn about soft skills such as communication skills and behavioural attitudes. However, through computer-based classes, it is not easy to acquire such emotional skills since these skills cannot be taught without in-person meeting. Eventually, excessive using of computers instead of real teachers in school may foster students who lack of social skills, which act as an important ability to become a member of society.
To sum up, while there are several benefits to using computers in school instead of teachers, I firmly believe that teachers play a role that cannot be replaced by computer teaching because they provide an immediate interaction with students and the education of social skills
