Some people argue that zoos are cruel to animals. Others argue that zoos could help animals against dangers. This essay will demonstrate both sides of view that agree or disagree to keep animals in the zoos and show my own opinion at the conclusion.
On the one hand, a bunch of people thinks that zoos are cruel to animals. The main reason for this argument is that keeping animals in small cages is unnatural at all. For example, a lot of research shows that the Bengal tiger, the magnificent mighty creature, living in wild has millions of square of activity areas. Nevertheless, in the zoo, only small areas are assigned to tigers. This situation could stress them out them and possibly bring not only psychological disease but also physical illness to tigers. For these reasons, people disagree with the idea to keep animals in the zoo.
On the other hand, people think that zoos would help protect animals from facing the danger of extinction. Hundreds of animals are endangered nowadays. For instance, the report from NGO, the Green peace, (여기에 the NGO that~ 하면서 그린피스에 대한 간단한 설명을 추가해주셔도 좋습니다.) reported that only 50 African rhinos remain on the Earth. However, the exploitative hunting to take advantage of the rhino is still occurring in the African territory even if the government prohibits hunting them. That is why people say zoos are inevitable facilities for protecting wild animals. We can contain animals in well-observed areas to keep animals them safe from dangers like hunting. Otherwise, zoos could give adequate environments to animals for their healthy life. Sufficient food and balanced surroundings help to increase the number of animals in a hard situation.
To sum up, both sides of view are reasonable for animals' health and protection. On balance, however, I more agree that zoos' functions outweigh their disadvantages. Zoos could help animals in desperate situations that those who when they lose their habitat cannot survive and help them for continuing their life. Otherwise, the government has to restore the animals' original habitat and prohibit hunting animals more strictly. |
