Nowadays, environmental pollution and housing problems
are emerging issue in various countries. Some people argue that governments
should focus on such problems in order to prevent disease among people. In this
essay I will give reasons why I agree with this point of view.
First,
governments should intervene on environmental and housing issues because they
can access to detailed information concerning these problems. In case of
accommodations, private sectors can attain only restricted information while governments
can view every information needed to solve this problem. They can figure out
how many people from certain background are suffering from housing matters and
who are the most vulnerable among them. Such details are not easily
recognizable to other entities of a society, since they cannot collect
information from every household across the country. This is true with
environmental problems. While NGOs or citizens can only acknowledge
environmental issues of a certain area, governments are capable of reaching out
throughout the country. Having information is essential in solving problems,
thus, governments would be able to address such problems effectively.
Moreover,
governments are able to apply policies across the country while other entities
only have limited capacity in tackling such problems. Usually governments are
entities which have biggest budget in countries. Therefore, they can implement
solutions with bigger effect compared to private sectors. Also, since their
sovereignty reaches through out their country, they can force solutions to be
applied all over their territory. In short governments have capacity to
implement policies aimed at environmental and housing problems when others
don’t.
To conclude, I believe that governments should concentrate
on addressing environmental issues and also securing accommodations for their
people. It is because they have more information and capacity to solve such
matters compared to other entities.
