In many English-speaking countries, it is hardly surprising to find people from non-English-speaking countries who want to learn the language. As anyone can easily notice, there is a tendency to study English and it is getting more common phenomenon.
The biggest reason for students to want to study English could be its importance at schools. English, as a subject, is regarded as one of the most important subjects along with Math and Science, not to mention that a host of books and other materials are written in English. When it comesto those who work, it gets more crucial to speak it now that the majority of companies want their employees to prove their English skills, by taking tests or by having English interviews, for example.
What makes English an absolutely essential language through the world is that English is one of the languages which are spoken and used the most. Although other languages spoken in Europe - Spanish, French, and so on - are not the same as English, they have fairly similar alphabets and share a considerable amount of vocabulary;in terms of medical or scientific jargons, it can not be denied they are almost the same in many languages.
Another reason behind the importance of English could be globalisation. If there were people from 5 countries who were attending an international conference, but who do not speak English, it would be very callenging to communicate each other. However, thanfully, English is very commonly used at international meetings and make it possible to negotiate and discuss matters freely.
Regarding the increasing importance of English, people will keep trying to go abroad and learn the language first-hand. Therefore, there needs precise purpose and understandings of studying English and pursue their goals consistantly. |
