Some people believe that it is preferable to develop existing public transport rather than making new railway lines for fast trains between cities. Others, however, assert that constructing new railway lines fosters cities' economic growth. Personally, I support both ideas because it helps economic development and provides convenience to citizens.
Some people assert that constructing new railway lines fosters economic growth, and this also provides jobs to their citizens. In particular, constructing new railways needs many workforces, and later, when fast railways are constructed, connected cities will be developed as well, as people in other cities would travel or live move due to the enhancement of public transportation. For example, in South Korea, after the KTX was introduced, which is Korea's fast railway lines, many commuters often used to travel from Seoul to Busan, and this fosters both cities' economic development as well as offering many jobs. It is clear that new speedy railways will improve cities' economic growth because this not only provides jobs but also increases people's moving range.
On the other hand, developing existing public transport saves the government's funds and more people can feel comfortable. Since conservating and improving existing public transportation does not cost large amounts of money, the government can save their funds. For instance, the city government in Seoul changed all seats in bus and subway, and many citizens were highly satisfied. This shows that only small improvements can increase people's satisfaction.
Given the evidence stated above, it is clear that the government needs to spend money on both new railway lines and existing public transport. This is because both developments have huge advantages for citizens to have a better life. |
