It is gradually more recognized that a high school must teach students practical knowledgee such as science and technology rather than irrelevant and dull stories such as history and art. Although science and technology are becoming more important in modern society, we should not overlook the value of history and art.
It seems positive that high schools should be the place to learn expert skills for students’ future job. Nowadays, the high rate of unemployment is one of the most significant problems, therefore most teenagers might be trained for skills by school teachers to get a better job. Also, we would need to know the knowledge of science to live in the future world, because the more developed the society is, the more important scientific technology is.
However, secondary schools should provide not only opportunities for getting a profession, but also various subjects for their young learners. This is because teenagers have their own characters, and they have a right to learn what they want to in schools. In addition, educational institutions are playing a very important role in shaping young students’ values and beliefs. By learning history and art, children can understand what happened in the past and what values are important such as love, tolerance and forgiveness.
Although there is no denying that given assertion has realistic grounds for its claim, I absolutely do not agree with the former view that there should be more time for science and technology on school timetables, because it is also valuable for young people to learn history and art.
