It is worthy
to keep in touch with families because they are important, but I believe the
importance of family members decreased throughout the days and especially in
this busy contemporary society.
Some people believe extended family members are indeed valuable no matter of the time. Children
mostly complete their emotional growth within the family, which is why some who
were raised by grandparents show different characteristics compared to those raised
by their parents. Therefore, having a good relationship with family members is and
will be crucial. People these days often forget the importance of family
members as more and more people live alone or far away from their family
members, so they should make extra time to have family activities.
Notwithstanding,
I am of the opinion that extended family is not that important unlike the past.
Households are no longer composed by extended family, but parents and their
child. In Korea, people commonly meet their family members, except their
parents, twice a year in Thanksgiving day and New Year’s day. Therefore, when contemporary
society’s people need help, they usually ask their friends or colleagues whom people
confront and contact much more. In many cases, acquaintances may feel more comfortable
to ask for something, rather than extended family members whom you never called
or met except in official family meetings. The meaning of ‘family’ is not the same
as before.
In
conclusion, it is clear that extended family is important, but it is more persuasive
that the importance has fallen these days. People would rather choose to ask acquaintances
than relatives for help, because they feel closer with them.
