The give line chart depicts the average carbon
dioxide(hereafter CO2) output in metric tonnes(hereafter MT) per capita in four
European countries, the UK, Sweden, Italy, and Portugal from 1967 to 2007. As a whole, the UK secured the highest CO2
producing nation throughout the given period. The average emission of the UK
and Sweden shows slump, whereas the graph of Italy and Portugal plots the explosive
growth. In regard to the UK and Sweden, these two
nations’ carbon dioxide discharge had dipped for 40 years. It is noteworthy while
the graph of the UK gently dropped from initial 11 MT to 9 MT in the end,
that of Sweden has the significant fluctuation. Even though Sweden emitted nearly
9 MT in the beginning and increased slightly more than 10 MT in 1977, it subsequently
plummeted to 7 MT after a decade. Finally, the output of Sweden ended up with
less than 6 MT. Of the produced CO2 in average in Italy and
Portugal, it started 4 MT and less than 2 MT respectively. In 1977, Italian CO2
emission grew to more than 6 MT and that of Portugal exceeded 2 MT, and it jumped
up by 1 MT and 5 MT accordingly for the next 20 years. Notably, when Italy took over the
second-highest country polluting the atmosphere in 1997, that of Portugal delineates
the same output with Sweden in 2007. |
