These charts illustrates the percentage of households with three electrical devices and the number of hours doing housework per weak, between 1920 and 2019. Overall, it is clear that the percentage of using electrical devices generally increased every year while housework hours per week decreased. To look more closely, in the first chart, the percentage of using refrigerator sharply increased from nearly 0% in 1920 to 90% in 1960. And almost every household started to use refrigerator in 1980. Moreover, the percentage of using vacuum cleaner was 40% in 1920, however it became doubled in 1960. Until in 1960, the percentage of using washing machine was higher than the vacuum cleaner, but it changed after in 1960. The percentage of using vacuum cleaner became 100% after in 2000. In the second chart, the hours of housework per week was 50hours in 1920. However, it dramatically dropped to 20 in 1960. Also, after in 1960, the housework hours per week is under 20 hours until 2019. |
